Hindu Shaivagama Priest (Full-Time)

Location: Hindu Temple of Central Arkansas, Little Rock, Arkansas

HTCAR invites applications for a full-time Hindu Shaivagama Priest to serve the temple community in Central Arkansas. The priest will play a central role in supporting the spiritual and devotional life of our community.

Job Description

  • Perform daily Vedic rituals, ceremonies, and other priestly duties as approved by HTCAR management, both at the temple premises and at off-site devotee locations as needed.
  • Must be willing to work a revolving schedule.
  • Job performance and lifestyle should comply with accepted Hindu customs and traditions.

Required Qualifications & Experience

  1. Must be qualified as a Hindu priest with certification from Sri Venkateshwara University, TTD, and hold a Certificate in Agama Pravara, Vara, or Pravesa from a recognized Government Institution in Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, or Karnataka.
  2. Must be well versed in Vedic rituals.
  3. Must have served as a resident priest in Hindu temples for at least five (5) years, in India or abroad.
  4. Must have working knowledge of English and bi-lingual ability in Indian languages. Multi-lingual ability is a plus.
  5. Must have demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with other priests, devotees, temple staff, and management.
  6. Must be experienced and willing to perform services in all sanctums of a Shiva-Vishnu Temple.
  7. Must be willing to relocate to Central Arkansas within a reasonable timeframe after acceptance and signing of the employment contract, and fully cooperate in the visa application process as necessary.
  8. Multiple years of experience independently organizing major festivals or celebrations (for example: Ganesh Chaturthi, Shivarathri, Satyanarayan Pooja, Kalyanotsavas, Homams, Vratams, Pratishthas, Brahmotsavams, Pavithrothsavams, spiritual lectures, Satsangs, etc.).
  9. Experience in Alankara.
  10. Ability to teach Veda mantras, Stotras / Shlokas and their meanings to devotees.
  11. Ability to lead Bhajans, chant Stotrams, and group spiritual activities.

Desirable Qualifications

  1. Broader understanding of traditional Hindu rituals and festivals across various regions of India.
  2. Multiple years of work experience in temples in the United States (preferred).
  3. Ability to drive a car and travel independently.
  4. Collegiate education with an undergraduate degree.
  5. Basic knowledge of computer software applications (Word, Excel, Email).
